Universidad EAN was internationally accredited in 2008 by the Association of Collegiate Business Schools and Programsof the United States. A new name (acronym) and logo were approved in the 2010 ACBSP Annual Conference. As from such year, the new name for this association is ACCREDITATION COUNCIL FOR BUSINESS SCHOOLS AND PROGRAMS.

What is the ACBSP accreditation?

The ACBSP (Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs) is known for establishing, promoting and recognizing educational standards aimed at contributing to the continuous improvement of quality in the academic training of business administration, and for accrediting schools and programs adhering to these standards. The ACBSP certifies that all teaching and learning processes meet the rigorous standards already established.

Which criteria does the ACBSP assess?

The accreditation process is based on certifying that an academic program complies with the university’s mission statement, institutional project, objectives, nature, and academic and administrative processes, thus verifying that all members of the academic community does take ownership of these matters.

  • Leadership
    Compliance with the creation and support of values, a student focus, and a leadership system by both the institution and the faculty with the purpose of promoting excellent performance.
  • Strategic Planning
    Strategic planning aimed at guiding students and ensuring that program requirements are met.
  • Student and Stakeholder Focus
    Compliance with requirements and expectations of students and applicants; satisfaction measurement system.
  • Measurement and Analysis of Student Learning and Performance
    Internal assessment of performance leading to the continuous improvement of the program.
  • Faculty and Staff Focus
    Ability to comply with the mission statement and goals in accordance with the performance of both the faculty and the management.
  • Educational and Business Process Management
    Program innovation through a flexible curriculum in line with current academic demands.

Undergraduate Degree in Production Engineering Accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology

In 2011, Universidad EAN began the accreditation process of its three engineering academic programs with the ABET (Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology), the most important accrediting agency worldwide in the engineering field. On August 21, 2012, the Undergraduate Degree in Production Engineering was the first program being granted such accreditation.

What is the ABET accreditation?

The ABET accreditation is the international guarantee received by an academic program, offered by an institution of higher education, meeting the quality standards established by the professional career its students receive.

Which criteria does the ABET assess?

The accreditation assesses eight criteria of each academic program:

  1. Students.
  2. Academic program objectives.
  3. Competencies fostered by the academic program on students as problem-solving skills in engineering and teamwork.
  4. Continuous improvement and updating of the academic program teaching and learning process.
  5. Curriculum.
  6. Academic staff.
  7. Facilities.
  8. Institutional support.
 

  • National Accreditation Council – CNA (for its acronym in Spanish, Consejo Nacional de Acreditación)

Universidad EAN has nominated each of its undergraduate academic programs before the Ministry of National Education for them to be granted the High Quality Accreditation by the National Accreditation Council.

What is the CNA accreditation?

It is an academic body under the National Council of Higher Education – CES (for its acronym in Spanish, Consejo Nacional de Educación Superior) created by Act 30 of 1992. Its purpose is to review the accreditation process, organize it, supervise it, and vouch for its quality, as well as advise the Ministry of National Education on the programs and institutions deserving such accreditation.

Which criteria does the CNA assess?

The evaluation of higher education quality is performed through the assessment of academic peers. They examine the way a program meets the quality requirements established by the academic communities of the corresponding profession or discipline and its consistency with the nature and purposes of the institution.

  • Achievement of both goals and objectives of higher education.
  • Ability to self-assess and self-regulate.
  • Social relevance of the mission statement and the institutional project.
  • Compliance with basic functions of teaching, research and outreach.
  • Impact of the academic work in the society.
  • Development of administration and management areas.
  • Welfare and physical and financial resources.
Which academic programs are accredited by the National Accreditation Council?

On-campus Undergraduate Degree in Business Administration

The High Quality Accreditation was granted for a four-year period by means of Resolution No. 1941 of August 19, 1999, issued by the Ministry of National Education of the Republic of Colombia.

This High Quality Accreditation was renewed for a five-year period by means of Resolution No. 3689 of October 25, 2004, issued by the Ministry of National Education. 

In 2010, by means of Resolution No. 6463 of July 23, the Business Administration program was reaccredited again for a six-year period.

Virtual Undergraduate Degree in Business Administration

The High Quality Accreditation was granted for a four-year period by means of Resolution No. 790 of February 20, 2008, issued by the Ministry of National Education of the Republic of Colombia.

This High Quality Accreditation was renewed for a four-year period by means of Resolution No. 4794 of May 8, 2010, issued by the Ministry of National Education. 

On-campus Undergraduate Degree in Economics

On December 9, 2009, the Economics academic program was granted the public recognition of high quality accreditation by Minister of Education Cecilia María Vélez under the event entitled ‘The best in education – 2009’ (from the Spanish Los mejores en educación 2009).

The accreditation was granted for a six-year period by means of Resolution No. 7464 of October 16, 2009, issued by the Ministry of National Education.

On-campus Undergraduate Degree in Production Engineering

The High Quality Accreditation was granted for a four-year period by means of Resolution No. 7229 of November 23, 2007, issued by the Ministry of National Education of the Republic of Colombia.

On-campus Undergraduate Degree in Systems Engineering

The High Quality Accreditation was granted for a four-year period by means of Resolution No. 2488 of March 30, 2011, issued by the Ministry of National Education of the Republic of Colombia.

On-campus Undergraduate Degree in Modern Languages

The High Quality Accreditation was granted for a six-year period by means of Resolution No. 10332 of November 17, 2011, issued by the Ministry of National Education of the Republic of Colombia.


  • SGS - Quality Management System Certification

On January 27, 2012, Universidad EAN was granted the CO09/2794 certificate on Management Systems upon assessment of compliance with the requirements of ISO 9001:2008 .

What is the SGS certification and what does it mean?

The Quality Management System Certification is granted by SGS, one of the largest and well-known global companies covering this type of certifications, as well as compliance with and implementation of Quality Management Systems.

This certification means that an institution has properly implemented a Quality Management System as a guarantee to its students and the society as a whole of the evident quality of its services.

Being granted such certification allows us to interact in the globalized world as it sends a clear message of confidence on the continued establishment of actions aimed at ensuring quality in all dimensions.
